Twitter vs. Facebook – How do you use them?

Twitter vs. Facebook: These are two completely different social media tools, but how do you use them? Facebook has more than 750 million active users, of which over half log on at least once a day. Whilst Twitter has only 200 million users, who between them manage to Tweet over 200 million Tweets daily!I started using Facebook several years ago and used it to keep in touch with my friends. My network grew rapidly to include many people, who although i knew of, I hardly knew. I’m up to 477 “friends” and that’s not including the countless requests I have turned down from people with very suspicious looking names, who wanted me to save their mother from bankruptcy! I have been there, I have tried it all; from game and events to apps and checking in. But its main use for me still remains keeping in touch will old school friends and family than anything else.
My use of Twitter is now where I tend to focus more time. I have been using it less than a year but I use it more as a professional network than one for gossip. I follow people who discuss topics which interest me not just because i know them, through that person, twice removed… The use of trends and hashtags allows you to easily follow and catch up on topics which interest you. I follow just under 100 people some who post almost every 10minutes some once a month but either way I value most of what they post and often follow it up.

Twitter is fast becoming my prefered social media tool due to the style of short posts and trending topics! So, how do you use social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter?  Please leave your comments or tweet my post if you like it!

The Loss of Jobs from Apple

Click, Boom, Amazing!

When Steve Jobs talks he has a powerful way with words, his speechs are always layden with personal revelations and emotions which really hit home with the people listnening. Now it seems then end of an era is here, but what does this mean to Apple?

“As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.” – Steve had already made a clear decision at some point in the past that he could not go on forever, he saw it fit to have discussed this with the board before his final decision to step down. Reality is that Jobs does not want to leave, his move was clearly well planned in advance and he has been elected chairman of the board with immediate effect.

Below are they key words Jobs used in his resignation letter; it shows a strong emphasis on his team and the sucession of his company. His emotive qualities were certainly not missed from his last piece of writing as CEO:

His sucessor, Tim Cook is already familiar with the role his has taken on having stepped up previously in Jobs’ absence earlier in the year. They are seemingly different men; Steve Jobs Innovative Mastermind, Tim Cook Dependable Groundskeeper. Whilst Jobs pushed ideas, strategy and the future onto the company Cook designed and polished the operational approaches which turned one mans visions into a reality.

With the Iphone 5 already poised for release and also the rumours of the Iphone 4s I doubt apple will fall from grace in any manner of speaking. Lets just all hope that with Jobs still holding the position of Chairman his ethics will still run through the companys veins and the company will flourish with Jobs creativity released from the pressuring role of CEO.

How Punctuation changes the meaning of everything…

Everyone always says how important punctuation is, but you never really think about it until you read an example like this…

Subliminal advertising your meant to notice…

The first time I saw one of these ad’s flash on and off the screen in 2 seconds flat I was definitely intrigued to say the least. Having the joys of Sky Plus, i hit rewind and paused on the screen. To my amusement it was a small paragraph telling me about the power of subliminal messaging, the irony… The subsequent flashs of advertising over the following week lead me infact to do the complete opposite of what im sure they wanted. I paused my TV to read the little quirky information and then fast forwarded through their subsequent adverts until I caught up with live TV again. Essentially removing myself from their sponsors ads all together.

Was this a clever ploy for me to focus on their advertising during the adverts or simply a foolish error guiding me away from their money makers?

Is Facebook changing consumer relationships?

One of the ways Facebook is changing consumer relationships is by making it harder to cheat on your partner. Your indiscretions will now be saved forever for posterity.

What is it that makes people announce their every waking movement. If you log on early morning you read how hard it was to get up or how lovely the weather looks. Soon after this people announce their plans for the day, followed with how they are going and to conclude in the evening a summary report telling us how good or bad their day was. Some people even go so far as to upload pictures of what they’re eating as the day goes along.

But what is it that makes us feel the need to do so, what urges us to let people know our every move? Is it the need for recognition, wanting someone to comment or point out how cool you are or just purely to give something for your fingers to do for a few minutes whilst your waiting?

When you follow people it is often because they are interested in what you are interested in, and in effect confirm your own narrow world view. What is it which possesses us to inform the world how inebriated we became last night, is it for other peoples recognition, or to help convince ourselves that its fine “Everyone was doing it!”

Is technology to blame for the mess we’re in?

Source: Guardian.co.uk
Twitter is often considered an unequivocal source of breaking news, but after these riots in London it is fact becoming a place of scaremongering, inciting fear into people’s homes and encouraging others to become involved.

The original source of the rioting seems to have occured on Blackberry Messenger, so police officers looking for warnings on Twitter and Facebook weren’t to prevail. But since they began social media has been booming with information regarding the events. Some truthful, some trying to mislead, some just misinformed but either way the information is being leaked out at an alarming rate causing upheaval across the country.

One of the untrue rumours floating was that London Zoo had been attacked and a tiger released onto the streets of London. Was this someone’s idea of a sick joke?

Facebook Pages supporting the cleanup have popped up tenfold but as have pages supporting the riots…What is it thats makes this kind of behavious acceptable to those involved. They are destroying peoples homes and lives and half of them don’t even seem old enough to understand why they’re doing it. It is simply the new trend and they are just your average followers…

They wanted a design to promote the run itself within the local media advertising and for on promotional merchandise. The idea behind it is i manipulated the college logo with a fun twist. This allowed the college brand to show throught whilst promoting a fun and friendly charity event.
I was awarded first prize and my logo was used across the event.

10 Great Magazine Ads That Don’t Just Sit There Looking Pretty

Great article from Adweek: http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/10-great-magazine-ads-dont-just-sit-there-looking-pretty-132401

I love the Carlsberg advert, really original and unique but with a functional use. This would definitely be a talking point in the pub, if not a party trick in the future!
